Municipal Court

The Nevada Municipal Court is housed in the Public Safety Building, 120 South Ash, Nevada, Missouri. This is in the downtown area at the corner of Austin Blvd (Hwy 54West) and Ash Street (Hwy W).  The Building is located on the northwest corner of the intersection. The court may be easily accessed from the intersection of Austin Blvd and Ash Street.  Parking is available in the City Hall parking lot at 110 South Ash or at many of the public parking areas.

[font_icon icon=circle-arrow-right font_size=14px color=#975358] Normal business hours are from 8:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M on Mondays and 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Tuesday through Friday. The main phone number is (471) 448-2737. All court sessions are open to the public.

[font_icon icon=circle-arrow-right font_size=14px color=#975358]The Municipal Court has jurisdiction over violations of city charter provisions and city ordinances. Some violations require an appearance in court, while others may be resolved by simply paying a fine instead of appearing. Court proceedings are governed by city ordinances, court rules, and state statutes. Court employees are not allowed to give legal advice, but will be happy to answer procedural questions.

[font_icon icon=circle-arrow-right font_size=14px color=#975358]The Municipal Court handles all types of traffic and criminal violations. Many of the traffic violations are payable prior to court, but most criminal violations require an appearance in court before a judge.

Paying a Fine/Ticket

1.     You must respond to your ticket by either:

a.    Paying the fine established for the offense on your ticket before your court date, or
b.    Appearing in person on your court date to make arrangement for payment or to plead not guilty to contest the ticket.

2.    To Plead Guilty and Pay your fine:

a.    The amount of most fines is listed on the reverse side of this sheet.  If your offense is not listed on this sheet, call the court office to determine the amount of your fine.
b.    Make payment in U.S. Dollars to the “City of Nevada”.  Partial payments cannot be accepted. NO PERSONAL CHECKS

1)    To send by mail, address to MUNICIPAL COURT, 120 S. Ash, Nevada, MO  64772.  Enclose a Money Order for the amount due.
2)    To pay in person, the court office is open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Monday and 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Tuesday through Friday.  Payments made in person can be made with Cash, Money Order, Visa, MasterCard, or Discover.

3.     On back of the ticket, sign on the “Defendant’s Name” line, fill in current address and driver’s license number, and return it with your payment by 3:00 p.m. on your court date.  Be sure to allow enough days for the mail to deliver, whereas the court is not responsible for delays in the Postal Service.

*Court Appearance Guidelines*

No food or drink will be allowed in the Courtroom.  No hats are to be worn and proper attire is required.  Use of tobacco products is prohibited.  All cell phones and pagers must be turned off.  Children 5 yrs. old and under will not be allowed in the courtroom while court is in session.

*Warning* If you fail to respond to this summons by your court date:

1.    A WARRANT may be issued for your arrest.
2.    Your driving privileges in this state or in your home state may be suspended until the fine is paid.  If your license is suspended, you will have to pay your ticket and an additional fee to the Department of Revenue to have your driving privileges reinstated.  Also, a HOLD can be placed on your license to keep you from renewing it until the court has been satisfied.
